There you can hear many interesting stories. For example, there is a trout in Ohrid which the locals are proud of because it is endemic and represents one of the symbols of Macedonia.
Macedonian touristic treasure
Ohrid with it’s lake, old town and national park is the most visited touristic place in Macedonia. Statistics says that yearly, there is one million tourists who come to enjoy in “Macedonian touristic pearl”.
In the world of tourism, Ohrid city is known as “Jerusalem of the Balkans” because there are 30 ortodox churches in such small area.
Mrs Maja Filiposka Baleska from touristic agency Lale tours, said that people from all over Europe come to this beautiful part of Macedonia for different reasons.
Heaven for those who like fish on their plates
People from the area are very proud of it.
Back in the days the trout was used as exchange for other goods.
“During the 60’s, people from villages around the lake wich were poor, went to villages in the hills. They used to exchange fish for the bread there. They had to give one kilogram of the traut, to get one kilogram of the bread”, said mr. Kristijan Bishoski who works as a tourist guide for many tourists from Netherlands.
Mrs. Filiposka Baleska, who we mentioned earlier in our story, said that trout is one of the most interesting things about Ohrid.
“It’s delicious, unique and you can only eat it here. The most famous dish is Ohrid chowder. Also, all villages around the lake have their own recepies for the fish soup, but they are all delicious”.
There is someone who takes care of the trout
Besides the hatchery activities other responsibilities of DAFA are fish population ecology, human impact, genetic radiation, hybridization – natural and induced for farming purposes, species conservation, fish and fisheries monitoring, fishery management plans and strategies etc.
Money, money, money
You can find the troud on Macedonian courency – DENAR. This currency was established in 1992. It replaced the 1990. version of the Yugoslav dinar. In May 1993, the currency was reformed.
